Summary: Abstract:
Thermal Analysis is a term for the study of heat transfer through structures by means a group of experimental techniques WHEREas physical, chemical and thermal properties of a substance, or its reaction products, are monitored as a function of time and temperature in a controlled atmosphere. However, due to the high cost of maintenance of these devices, the validation and development of thermal analysis simulators become interesting from the economic and phenomena point of view. The objective of the present work is to model and simulate of a thermogravimetric (TG) device via the CFD OPENFOAM. For this purpose, experimental data available in the literature was used for the validation and confrontation with the simulations. Also, It was analysed - through the Biot number - how important is the correct choice of the sample size. Numerical parameters such as spatial and temporal (Courant number) mesh size are discussed. The results show satisfactory agreement when compared to the TG data of oil shale.
